NATO Information Knowledge Management (IKM) Course

Overview

This course will be delivered as an in-person classroom environment with two of the days at SOFCOM and a one-day fieldtrip to NATO HQ. This iteration is for SOFCOM members only

This is a 3-day version of the NATO IKM course normally offered at NATO School Oberammergau.  The aim of this course is to prepare students for their duties in the planning and execution of IKM functions and services for NATO.

This course will focus on IM and KM concepts that have the highest value to SOFCOM staff members.

Learning Objectives

Principles of Information Management:

Referencing NATO IM policies, students will be able to determine the compliance of their organisations with NATO’s IM principles, giving examples of suboptimal practices and distinguishing the relevant NATO IM policy to these practices.

Developing an IM Plan:

Using the NATO template, students will be able to develop an IM Plan and demonstrate its implementation through examples in the syndicate exercises.

Continuous Improvement:

Using knowledge of their organisation and NATO IM Guidelines, students will be able to describe and document information needs and establish procedures for continuous improvement that measurably improve efficiency.

IM Implementation:

Using the NATO IM policies and guidelines, the student will be able to implement IM standards.

IM Tools and Support Processes:

The student will be able to distinguish the component parts and features of IM tools and specify how NATO uses these tools to support its processes.

IM Trends and Future Programs:

The student will be able to outline IM trends and future NATO programmes and their effects.

Course Aim

To prepare students for their duties in the planning and execution of IKM functions and services for NATO.

Objectives

Receive IKM training and briefings from NATO HQ.
