NATO Special Operations Surgical Team Development Course

TLDR – Course for development of Special Operations Surgical Teams. Please use contact section on main page if your nation has an interest in attending – courses are typically ran for 1 to 2 nations at a time.

Who - Ideal course participants are medical professionals currently assigned to, preparing to join or responsible for deploying specialized surgical assets in support of SOF or contingency operations. Course enrollment priority is given to candidates currently in direct support of SOF elements.

What - This five day course teaches NATO medical personnel how to create and refine elite Special Operations Surgical Teams (SOST). The SOF operational environment, characterized by extended medical evacuation timelines and the high risk nature of SOF operations, increases SOF personnel’s chances of requiring urgent surgical intervention in austere environments. Increasingly national SOF elements are participating in Military Assistance (MA) operations and humanitarian response by deploying specialized, highly mobile, flexible surgical capability to perform medical engagement, partnering and disaster medical care. This course will discuss foundational and emerging concepts in damage control surgery, far forward resuscitation, medical planning, equipping and employment of SOSTs. Students will use state of the art medical simulation and simulators to practice team concepts and surgical skills. Course graduates will be better prepared to create, maintain, train and employ SOSTs, thereby increasing NATO SOF medical interoperability, saving lives and improving mission success.
