The National Training Center (NTC) at Ft. Irwin, California is the US Army’s premier Combat Training Center (CTC). Its mission is to design and execute Mission Rehearsal Exercises (MRE) that prepare Brigade Combat Teams (BCT) and other units for operational deployments (OEF/ISAF, FSO, etc.).- MREs are highly realistic and stressful joint training events incorporating Force-on-Force scenarios designed to prepare units for Major Combat Ops (MCO); Counter-Insurgency (COIN) Ops; and Stability, Security, Transition, and Reconstruction Ops (SSTRO). Typically, ten BCT MREs are executed per year.- Heavily resourced, MREs replicate the complex Political, Military, Economic, Social, Infrastructure, and Information (PMESII) dimensions of the current contemporary operational environment (COE).- As one of the Army’s Joint National Training Capability (JNTC) programs, NTC is actively working to increase SOF, joint, interagency, and multinational participation in their events. NTC MREs provide excellent interoperability training opportunities for SOF and conventional forces. Coalition SOF participation requires sponsorship by a US SOF team.
